I went up to Orlando this past weekend for Megacon and ended up exploring Winter Garden Friday & Saturday night with a friend who lives in the area. She took me to check out some of her favorite spots in this charming little city. I wanted to share the restaurants I dined at with you just in case you are in the area (Winter Garden is not far from the theme parks).
While I went to UCF, I did get the opportunity to go to Winter Garden but never like this. At night, the area was all lit up and encompassed by a cheerful, relaxed crowd. Although it was not at all like Miami or the touristy spots of Orlando, I still felt safe while simultaneously stimulated by all that was going on around me. My time in Winter Garden included delicious eats, satisfying drinks, and great company.
We went to eat at Tasting Table (a more casual option at the Edgewater Hotel) Friday night at around 9PM. My friend often comes here and enjoys bites to eat and drinks. The place is adorable and historic looking – I loved the old Hollywood vibe behind the art and decor. Another positive point is that the service was quick and attentive. The Tasting Room menu offers a variety of dishes to share, along with beers, wine, and fancy cocktails. We thoroughly savored all of the tapas and drinks that we had. I came starving (I had just finished a 4 hour drive from Miami and had not had anything to eat since 2PM), so it is safe to say I ate enough to feed a horse or maybe even a small village. Out of everything I had, the Mini Beef Wellington Trio stood out. These pastries were not just visually appealing; they were sinfully fluffy and filled with braised beef short rib. I am a big fan of brussels sprouts (my favorite veggie) and the Tasting Room’s Pan Roasted Brussels Sprouts were superb – I mean, everyone (unless you are a vegetarian or vegan) can enjoy them because they include pieces of maple-cured bacon! The Asian Beef had an excellent taste – I just wish the portion was larger. *Some of the plates we had were specials of the day, therefore you will not find them on the regular menu (i.e. Pork Rinds & Flatbread).
MoonCricket Grille is a chill spot with burgers, bar food, live music, and a HUGE beer selection. None of the draft beers caught my attention and I felt like taking a risk, so I tried a beer I have never tried before – Dragon’s Milk. In honor of my girl, Daenerys Targaryen, I felt obliged to give this stout a shot. Honestly, I liked it – it reminded me of a Guinness. For dinner, I had one of my guilty pleasures – a Reuben. It hit the spot and the fries were awesome.
After dinner, we walked next door to The Attic Door. It is a cozy, low-lit wine bar with eclectic decor & lounge furniture, a menu of small plates, and live music. My friend loves this spot and was looking forward to brining us here. The vibe was relaxing and cheerful. We enjoyed some drinks while taking in the environment, listening to music, having a laugh, and unwinding in comfy chairs. My sister had the Chocolate Lava Cake and devoured it within seconds – I am guessing she liked it!
I cannot wait until the next time I give Winter Garden a visit!
