Mama Tried Miami – Retro, Radiant & Rare

Downtown Miami is not exactly the “it” place to go with Brickell, South Beach, and Wynwood dominating the nightlife scene. Although, it has added a reason to venture out to the area with Mama Tried – a new upscale, retro dive bar channeling those of Vegas back in the day.

The light-up Mama Tried sign influenced my visit, while the vibe and music kept me from leaving.

The bar offers affordable happy hour specials until 8PM everyday ($4 beers, $5 wells, and $7 specialty cocktails), great music, fun promotions (Women Wednesdays, Trivi-oke Mondays, Country Music Thursdays, and Disco Sundays), a Pac Man arcade game, a jukebox, a pool table, TVs, and a Bookleggers Library.

Mama Tried presents a funky alternative to the usual superficial, cramped, and draining Miami spots. I went on Friday around 6:30PM and took advantage of the happy hour specials. I was shocked upon entering the aesthetically pleasing dive bar, as it was completely different from any place I have been to in Miami.

I spent my time dancing to 80s hits, chatting with an old friend on one of the comfy rounded leather banquets, and snapping shots of this very picturesque bar. I will definitely be returning to Mama Tried – I cannot turn down good music and good company!

XO,

Caylin
